Standards

As integrity standards evolve across voluntary and compliance carbon markets, including those led by the ICVCM, Flowchain is designed to support projects that meet rising expectations for credibility and validation.

ICVCM Standards

The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) is founded on 10 core carbon principles that ensure the issuance of high-integrity carbon credits. The more a project activity is capable to justify the adherence to each standard, the higher the value of the carbon credits will be. Below is an outline of the principles, accompanied by an explanation as to why Flowchain's activity is in line with each of them.

Effective Governance

Flowchain is built around strong governance principles, with a comprehensive framework for the setup, monitoring, and long-term management of environmental and climate-impact projects. The platform supports technology-led solutions across a range of use cases, enabling organisations to deliver measurable, operational outcomes at scale. To ensure performance, resilience, and longevity, Flowchain embeds robust monitoring, maintenance, and independent verification processes as part of its standards-based approach.

Tracking

Flowchain supports the quantification and monitoring of environmental and climate-impact projects through a structured, data-driven framework. Project-level performance data is captured and processed to support accurate measurement of environmental outcomes, enabling transparency and alignment with internationally recognised methodologies.

Where carbon or other environmental credits are generated, Flowchain structures data to support independent third-party verification and registry integration. Verified outputs can be recorded within recognised registries that provide secure issuance, traceability, and lifecycle tracking, operating in line with established financial and governance standards.

Transparency

Flowchain is designed to promote transparency by ensuring that relevant information relating to supported projects, methodologies, and performance frameworks can be made accessible to stakeholders. This includes clear documentation of technologies used, data structures, and processes for measuring environmental outcomes, enabling independent scrutiny and informed assessment.

In addition, Flowchain is built to integrate with recognised registries and market infrastructure that publish their standards, protocols, and operating procedures openly. By aligning project-level data with transparent, standards-based systems, Flowchain supports an open and accountable approach to environmental markets, helping foster trust across the project lifecycle.

Independent Validation and Verification

Projects supported by Flowchain are structured to enable independent third-party verification by accredited assurance providers operating under internationally recognised standards.

Additionality

Emissions mitigation activities supported through Flowchain are structured to satisfy the principle of additionality, meaning the resulting emissions reductions would not occur in the absence of the underlying intervention. Without the implementation of these projects, participating facilities would be unable to achieve equivalent mitigation outcomes through business-as-usual operations.

By enabling interventions that reduce resource intensity — including energy use, process emissions, and downstream treatment impacts — Flowchain supports mitigation outcomes that are incremental, measurable, and attributable to the project activity itself.

Permanence

Flowchain is designed to support the identification and management of risks associated with the potential reversal of environmental mitigation outcomes. The platform embeds protocols and governance mechanisms intended to address such risks, including monitoring, contingency measures, and remediation pathways, helping ensure the durability and integrity of supported mitigation activities.

Quantification

Flowchain supports robust, standards-aligned monitoring frameworks designed to ensure accurate and consistent collection of project-level performance data. These frameworks enable the tracking of key performance indicators and provide reliable inputs for the quantification of emissions mitigation, in line with recognised standards such as ISO 14064-2.

Quantification methodologies supported by Flowchain are grounded in established scientific principles and peer-reviewed approaches. Assumptions and calculation inputs are derived from validated scientific testing and are subject to periodic review to ensure ongoing accuracy and relevance. Data sources are selected for credibility and authority, including government records and datasets produced or validated by reputable research organisations, supporting a high standard of scientific integrity across supported projects.

No Double Counting

Flowchain is designed to support the prevention of double counting across the lifecycle of environmental mitigation outcomes. The platform structures project data and asset records to ensure that mitigation benefits are uniquely identified, transparently tracked, and attributed to a single use at any point in time.

By aligning with recognised registry practices, verification frameworks, and market standards, Flowchain helps ensure that mitigation outcomes are not claimed, issued, or transferred more than once. This supports integrity across voluntary and emerging compliance carbon markets and reinforces confidence in reported environmental outcomes.

Safeguards

Flowchain is designed to support the reinvestment of value generated through environmental projects into the expansion and continuous improvement of impact. Capital generated through verified mitigation activities can be directed toward scaling project deployment, strengthening operational capability, supporting workforce training, and advancing research and development to improve efficiency and unlock new solutions.

In addition, Flowchain encourages collaboration with educational and research institutions to promote knowledge sharing, skills development, and innovation in sustainability. Through structured engagement and outreach, supported projects can contribute to raising awareness of responsible resource management and help build the next generation of practitioners and innovators in climate and environmental solutions.

Net-Zero Transition

As a technology-driven platform, Flowchain supports the transition to net zero by enabling environmental projects that deliver measurable emissions avoidance and reduction outcomes. By facilitating interventions that improve resource efficiency and reduce dependency on carbon-intensive practices, Flowchain helps prevent the long-term lock-in of high-emissions pathways.

The platform is designed to integrate with broader corporate and national decarbonisation strategies, supporting credible, data-driven contributions toward long-term climate and net-zero objectives.
